Jessica - 1 - Ubatuba - Brazil

Ubatuba - Brazil

Ubatuba is a Brazilian city, located on the North of Sao Paulo, where you can find lovely beaches surrounded by mountains and forests. A large part of the territory of Ubatuba consists of preserved areas. Additionally, the city has a marine park, which was created during "The Project Tamar" to protect and preserved the species of sea turtles along the Brazilian coast.

The landscape around the city makes Ubatuba an exotic city. There are many deserted beaches, quiet places for the people who want to relax and escape from the stress of the city. For those who like excitement, they can just go to the center of Ubatuba, where there are many events and festivals, and has a large concentration of bars and nightclubs.

Ubatuba has around 75 different beaches, with calm waters and many others with very very high waves, which is perfect for surfers.

The exotic biodiversity of Ubatuba enchants everyone who has been there. It is a paradise.

Vlad-9- Canada on Ukraine

           What is your country now?

When I decided to come to Canada to study, I tried to imagine what kind of life people have in Canada, but there was really little difference from what I was expecting. Now I have a picture of Canadian life. I find this experience very valuable. But what else I got after having spent six month in Canada? Now I can do one very interesting thing. I can look at my country's life from another angle. The idea is that when you live in your hometown for a long time, life becomes very routine. Even some strange things that can shock visitors look so usual. But this is a chance to get foreigner eyes. I paid zero attention to history, way how we live, habits. It was invisible.

First of all I want to highlight that Russia was governed by soviets for a long time and  all buildings are covered with  its symbols . Monuments of Lenin are in every city and town. Streets are named after soviet leaders.

It is so common to see that I didn't even have question like how come after so many years we still have them everywhere

I didn't realize that we have so many Churches. Everywhere!!!

There is one city called Sevastopol. It's just a military museum ! But we usually went there to go to clubs on weekend .

But look such military machines are all over the place!!!

Due to long history of reign of Czar family there  are so many places related to them

Last thing it has appeared that we have beautiful natural landscapes.

To put it in a nutshell, when I'll be back home, I 'llturn into a tourist)) Feel free to join me!

Nick-11-Gallipoli,Turkey

GALLIPOLI: THE IMPASSABLE GATEWAY

In 1915 Allied forces laid siege on Gallipoli peninsula. A joint combat force formed by British and French tried to take Gallipoli and head on to Istanbul and then establish a trade route with Russia in order to finish World War One. Unfortunately ,The Ottoman Empire was on the Axis side and the combat was inevitable. Allies  used the newly formed ANZAC's (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) and Ottoman's had Sergeant Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who later lead the country to it's independence after World War One.

After months of heavy fighting, Allied forces suffered great losses and lifted the siege due to extreme causalities and heavy bombardment from Ottoman artillery. At first, The Allies thought the victory was certain, but they learned that it wasn't the case the hard way. Turks also suffered heavy causalities in order protect their motherland,  and those losses made Gallipoli one of the most important historical places in Turkey. That's the main reason why I chose Gallipoli.

Today ANZAC's and Turks lay side by side in the Gallipoli memorial. Ataturk honoured the ANZAC's with his famous words : "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side, here in this country of ours. You the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now living in our bosom and are in peace. Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well." Gallipoli is important to the whole World not just to Turkey, because it is the place of the last honest battle of the history of mankind.

Decades after war and sorrow, Gallipoli now stands proud and unyielding as a sign of an era that has long passed. Trenches are preserved the way they were and they too, still stand in Gallipoli with their long gone occupants buried around them. I think it is very important for you to go there and see it with your own eyes and feel it because that experience will change your life. You will feel the war, the struggle for survival and most importantly the countless lives that were spent in order to claim or protect the land there.

Last but not least, Gallipoli is also a great display of the Turkish country side. Its people still live with the old traditions that is long forgotten to the rest of the world and they take care of their land which has cost them the lives of their ancestors. You can find peace and quite at Gallipoli while you are enjoying the unique beauty of the Marmara Sea.

Mario - Marriage

Marriage:
Let's divorce this idea!
Why do people still keeps getting into marriage, in this day and age where a common law status should be enough?

For hundreds of years religion has played a central role in society and subsequently everything that came out of it, dictating rules and setting examples so people could blindly follow. With the declining of centralized power and the establishment of modern societies, religion lost its status of moral power and slipped into a lesser role of spiritual guidance for people.

Now, everything around the institution of Marriage is attached to the aspects of modern society. Rules, rights, laws, contracts, fees, divorces, arbitrations; all of which is now responsibility of the State.

So, how come people are willing to go through a series of ceremonies  if they could simply be happy together?

An interesting way to understand this resisting nature of marriage is to look at the statistics:

- Most countries where marriage has decreased in recent decades are the so called first world countries, modern societies where the state predominate over religion and other secondary institutions.

- On the other hand, the countries where marriage still is a significant part of people's lives are those called developing countries, where the state doesn't provide sufficient means to its citizens, and it's exactly where religion institutions still have a strong presence in the way people live.

Outside this social economic reality, it is a fact that some people want to show their commitment by making a bold statement, signing certificates, diving into traditional marriage customs rather than quietly live together.

At the end, it doesn't matter how MUCH you go for it, people WILL still have the last say.

Gustavo-3-Marriage

What's the Real Importance Marriage?

There are many discussions around this issue and some people agree with getting married and registering everything through the paper; in contrast there are a huge number of people who totally disagree with it and they live together with their partners without getting married because they don't care about anything that can be related through law. In that case they are living in common law status which somehow is a marriage but without any paper or formal registration. Actually, this subject is a little bit complicated to discuss because it depends on the country where people live and also their religion, but I must give my opinion about it.

Nowadays, some things about marriage are becoming easier and other things are becoming more difficult, what I mean is that people don't care anymore about formalities, like signing and registration, because they don't want to be concerned about the law. That's why many couples currently after knowing each other, they go to live together and have children in a normal life like any other couple. Another reason which people don't care about marriage is that when the things haven't been very well and they decide to divorce, is the easiest way to do it. The number of divorced people has been increasing substantially which means that the relationships haven't been as healthy as years ago. Moreover, in some cases people have got married just for financial reasons or also for unwanted children which it sounds awful. In that case I totally disagree with getting married for the reasons, also that the child will grow up without feeling the really importance that exist in a family.

In conclusion, I think if we really know the people who are our partners and there is no doubt about anything, we're supposed to get married through law and have everything which a normal couple, or family, can be able and allowed to do. On the other hand, if the real reason is an unwanted child or something else, we shouldn't register it, mostly because as a business that we're not sure about the deal or even with the partner, we don't make deal as we don't get married with people who we have no idea about the future.

Nick-10- Marriage

MARRIAGE:HUMANITY'S WAY OF SAYING "WE OWN EACH OTHER!!"

Do we really want to condemn ourselves to a life-time bond? for me this is both morally and ethically hard, because I don't know what future will bring. I may not love/like the people I love/like at the moment or I may love/like someone else in the future, so giving promises about the future is not right to me.

You probably know the saying "never say never", have you ever thought why you shouldn't say never? I did and I reached a conclusion. We shouldn't say never because we can't possibly give assurance to the people about our future. For example, you have a girlfriend and you tell her that you will never leave her, but you can't really know about that. Maybe she will cheat on you or after some time you won't be interested in her anymore, how could you know for sure? for me that's the reason why we shouldn't use the word "never" too often.

Moreover, people take oaths of marriage to be "man and wife" until the end of their days; as far as I could understand, these oaths gives them a sense of confidence and enjoyment, But for me these oaths are like death sentences because I don't want to dedicate myself to only one person. But I'm trying to be empathetic for the sake of argument. Anyways, half of the people who get married all around the world get divorced at the end. So Why on earth are those people taking oaths just to break them after a couple of years? that doesn't makes sense and for me, as long as divorce is an option, marriage is meaningless and vice versa. There isn't any point at taking oaths if you can break them easily, so there isn't any point to take those useless oaths while divorce is a possibility down the road.

Last but not least, sharing a life with someone for a long period of time is very hard. People think they can handle it and they get married without knowing each other or worse, they think they know each other but they realize they don't know anything after they get married. I think people shouldn't marry, because if they won't put it on paper and take oaths about it they won't have to work that hard to divorce. They can still live together and have children, they can do whatever they want and if they get bored of each other they can leave each other without any sense of guilt or regret. In a nutshell, don't marry, be happy.

Mario - Masters of Destiny

Are we masters of our destiny?

Can we simply choose what we want or our life choices are part of a higher plan by a master pulling strings?

Every day we have to deal with decisions, from the smallest thing as choosing a shirt colour to big decisions like choosing a university major. The way we approach each decision is a fruit of our past life experiences, but still there is always a question that hang above our heads:

Is there something written for us?

Much of the world's history with supports the idea that our destiny is written can be traced to either religious or sociopolitical roots. For thousands of years the destiny of people  was controlled by religious dogmas and codes, social divisions and classes, or even simply by force. This reality cemented the way of thinking that this life is a prelude to a future more rewarding life.

Every one of these "powers", whether political or religious, began as organized movements against whoever was in charge of things. What a better example of rebellious behaviour than Jesus Christ in Roman controlled times?

 I smell a hoax...

Some people believe that we are reborn several times and this life is only one step towards a soul enlightenment, and your life here shows how high or low you are in this scale.
But is it not fair to say that this is only a lighter way to build conformity on people?

You're poor and face struggle every day? Don't worry, accept this as an important step towards a better next life.
Or better yet, how come most religions have the concept of hell and heaven if everybody relies on fate at the same time? Is 50% of the world already doomed to hell?

That's why if you stop and think for a while, you will realize that there's no such thing as fate, or written life. Well, at least nothing more than the social aspects of today, like birth, family, money, country and personal characteristics.

So, get up and go         smell the roses!
