Larissa - 9 - Bullying?! What would you?

Bullying

One of the most serious issues nowadays is bullying. But before I talk about what I would  do if I experience someone being bullied, I need to explain what is bullying.
Bullying is the use of force or coercion to abuse or intimidate others. The behavior can be habitual and involve an imbalance of social or physical power. It can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion and may be directed repeatedly towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of racereligiongendersexuality, or ability.

Now, that already explained we can move on. A bully (term used for the person who does it) usually wants to call attention and have the need of being popular by hurting people physically or making jokes about people. In my opinion, if I ever see someone being bullied I would try to fix the situation by telling someone with more power than me. For example, In a school. One student bullying the other, the best thing to do is to report it to the teacher, coordinator and in the last case to the principal therefore the competent authority can do something about it.

Bullying has had so many cases and some of them have not had a happy ending. One example of this was the case of Amanda Todd, a Vancouverite Canadian that suffered from  cyber bullying. This kind of bullying happens on the environment of the Internet.

What happened with Amanda was the following. She was convinced by someone on the Internet to show her breasts and then this same person blackmailed her to make a show otherwise this individual would spread this picture to all of her friends. Amanda had moved to another house and to another school and but she couldn't get away from the bullying. Amanda committed suicide on September 7th, 2012.
The story of Amanda is not unique. How many Amanda's are out there? People who suffer from bullying and don't know how to deal with. Campaigns, awareness education and programs are some  solutions for this very  issue in discussion.

Bullying is not going to change overnight. It takes some time and a lot of effort. Let's work on this so in a near future we can live respectfully with each other.
